in 2009 i joined the graphics desk of the wall street journal as part

of the newsroom's expansion into visual journalism. in 2010 we produced

a series called "what they know," a deep dive on the rise of the

internet tracking industry built around a database and a visualization

of that data. the collaboration was a model for new media storytelling.
