When Plans Fall Through, Serendipity

Nothing ever works out the way you plan. It’s the

imperfections we remember, like the flower girls at my

wedding who threw the flower petals AT the guests. When life

moves smoothly it’s a glassy river, slipping past our

consciousness.

I took a day off work last week to chaperone the second

grade field trip at my daughter Isabel’s school. For me,

taking a day off is complicated on many fronts. I tend to

get into a rhythm with my work (I’m a visual journalist, I

make infographics) and I often find it difficult to break
